Our beloved friend, Mike “Walking Wizard” Gates, has passed away from us.... 💔

For all of us who have dedicated our lives to the passion of Nordic Walking, Mike will always be a symbol of pioneering, courage and boundless love for the sport. In 2002, in Tweed Heads, Australia, Marko Kantaneva had the honor of working with Mike on the first international Nordic Walking training model. It was a true revolution that became the foundation for countless enthusiasts around the world.

Together, Mike and Marko Kantaneva created the PoleAbout brand, which changed the face of Nordic Walking by building a modern training and product structure. But what set Mike apart was not just his brilliant mind and relentless passion, but his incredible heart. His energy has ignited countless events - 24, 36 and even 48-hour non-stop Nordic Walking challenges. And that legendary march from Melbourne to Brisbane, 2,000 km in 22 days... Mike not only marched in the lead, but was also the one who organized everything with unbridled determination.

However, what will remain of Mike is not only the common achievements. It's the warmth, kindness, and cordiality with which Mike surrounded everyone he met on his path. He was not only a leader - he was a friend with a big heart. Together we traveled trails full of sun, wind and rain, and these memories will live in us forever.

His words will always be with us: “Life is short - pole harder!” No other phrase better captures Mike's spirit - a man who lived life to the fullest and inspired others to do the same.

Today, with a heavy heart, we raise a glass of Australian red wine 🍷 in your honor, my friend. Your soul will always be with us on every trail, every step of the way.
