THE EFFECT OF NORDIC WALKING ON SELECTED RESPIRATORY PARAMETERS OF PEOPLE OVER 55 YEARS OF AGE AND THE EVALUATION OF THIS FORM OF EXERCISE BY EXERCISERS
28 Mar 2025
Conclusions:
1. Group II (studied) Nordic Walking showed statistically significantly better improvement in VC and FVC parameters than Group I, subjected to standard fitness exercises. A statistically significant improvement in the FEV1 parameter was obtained only in Group II.
2 In Group II, there was an apparent trend toward greater differences between the initial and final measurements within the respiratory parameters studied. However, these changes did not prove to be statistically significant. This requires further study.
3 Those who practiced Nordic Walking rated the activity very highly. Marching with sticks has a chance to become a popular and widely practiced form of activity among the elderly in Poland, due to its simple and non-weight-bearing technique.
4 The small number of scientifically reliable publications evaluating the usefulness of Nordic Walking exercises in rehabilitation requires further research, conducted in accordance with the principles of Evidence - based Medicine.
