Nordic Walking improves daily physical activities in COPD: a randomised controlled trial

28 Mar 2025

For healthy people Nordic Walking training generates higher oxygen uptake than classical walking at equal speed. The aim of this study is to assess the physiological response in subjects with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. (COPD) The results of the study suggest that Nordic Walking may be a suitable walking method for training patients with moderate to severe COPD because it generates higher exercise intensity with the same subjective feeling of effort put into exercise compared to standard walking. However, further research is needed to compare the effect of NW and standard walking on health outcomes in patients with COPD of varying severity before NW can be included in environmental rehabilitation programmes.
