Nordic walking park concept as a way to promote active tourism

29 Mar 2025

The presented concept of the Nordic Walking Park (NWP) with particular reference to the Nordic Walking Park South of Podkarpacie proves that it is an initiative that deserves great recognition. According to the intention of its originators, it is intended to combine two very important phenomena, which are the rapid development of Nordic walking in Poland and the development of active and cultural tourism. The analysis carried out seems to prove the thesis that the very discipline of Nordic walking, understood here as a form of recreation or “sport for all”, and the idea of creating professional places (parks and trails) to practice it, are both an excellent form of promoting a healthy lifestyle through the development of recreation and active forms of tourism. They can become, in a short time, a contribution to the promotion of individual regions of our country, through the creation of a strong branded product on their territory. There are, of course, also shortcomings of the areas where NWPs are located, which were pointed out by A. Przyszlak (2014).  According to the author, the weak point of the trails for Nordic walking is the lack of promotion of this form of daily and weekend recreation, as well as, so far, poorly developed accommodation and catering facilities. It is to be hoped, however, that the very creation of the Parks and the fact that they are used by increasing numbers of enthusiasts of walking with sticks in the near future will also result in the development of the tourist and paratourist base of the area. According to the authors, the emergence of Nordic walking parks (Nordic Walking Parks) in Poland contributes to the promotion of the country's tourism assets in the broadest sense, and thus affects the development of active tourism
