Nordic Walking Promoted Weight Loss in Overweight and Obese People: A Systematic Review for Future Exercise Prescription

This systematic review analyzed ten studies examining the effects of Nordic Walking (NW) in overweight and obese individuals. The results demonstrated consistent improvements in body weight, BMI, waist circumference, body fat mass, blood lipid profiles, glucose tolerance, and aerobic capacity. The review emphasizes that high-frequency, supervised NW—ideally 4–5 times per week for at least 60 minutes per session—can lead to clinically meaningful changes. When combined with dietary interventions, NW becomes even more effective. The study supports including NW as a formal recommendation in exercise prescriptions for obesity management, especially given its low-impact nature and adaptability for individuals with mobility limitations.
