Effect of Nordic walking on pelvic movement and muscle activity around the hip joints

20 Aug 2024

Ten patients with hip osteoarthritis (OA) volunteered to participate in this study. Patients were excluded if they had serious metabolic, cardiovascular or psychiatric disease. Basic information about the participants is described in the results section. The ten participants were classified into four stages according to the evaluation criteria of the Committee of the Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA).
This classification is widely used in Japan and has been adopted by many studies.
The results of this study indicate that JS NW reduces compensatory pelvic rotation, protects the hip joint by reducing hip adductor muscle activity. hip adductor muscle activity and inhibits overused lower back muscles. Therefore, the JS NW style may be an effective clinical intervention to improve limpness in patients with hip OA.
