NORDIC WALKING FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF LYMPHOEDEMA
5 Apr 2025
This conference paper explores the use of Nordic Walking (NW) as a supportive exercise in the management of lymphoedema, particularly secondary to breast cancer treatment. Based on a literature review, the study highlights NW’s physiological benefits—improved circulation, cardiopulmonary function, and upper body strength—and psychosocial advantages like reduced stress, enhanced self-esteem, and better adherence to physical activity. NW spreads effort between the upper and lower body, keeping perceived exertion low and making it ideal for long-term engagement. The paper advocates for integrating NW into standard healthcare protocols for lymphoedema and calls for further research to define optimal training frequency and intensity.
