Nordic Walking and chronic back pain

20 Aug 2024

This randomized, single-blind clinical trial investigates whether Nordic Walking (NW) can improve outcomes in patients with chronic low back pain (CLBP). The study involves 150 participants who are assigned to one of three groups: supervised NW, unsupervised NW, or standard advice to remain physically active. The 8-week intervention measures outcomes such as pain, disability, cardiovascular capacity (via Watt Max Bicycle Test), and adherence (via accelerometers and exercise diaries). While results are pending, the study aims to clarify the effectiveness of NW as a low-cost, accessible, and patient-centered intervention for improving function and reducing pain in CLBP populations, and to assess whether supervision improves compliance and outcomes.
